All those long months,
I’ve cradled you beneath my heart,
enfolded you within my flesh.

I’ve monitored your growth,
Worried about your health,
fretted about your future.

I’ve listened to your heart beat,
As you’ve been comforted by mine
dreamt of you in my arms curled up together.

My hand on my belly
Feels you move within me
Feels you thrive and live.

You’re nurtured within my body
And you will forever be nurtured
Outside of it.

So while you are not yet here
Not yet being held to my breast
You’re still loved dearly.

Whether inside or out
Whether healthy or ill
You are my child.

And I am your mommy.
